A history enthusiast commissioned this piece.  The exceptionally dark, rich, figured walnut came from a tree that stood on the grounds of the Clinton Liberal Institute in Clinton, NY.  Students of this private school included Clara Barton, a Civil War nurse and founder of the American Red Cross. It was also attended by Matilda Joslyn Gage, who is well-known in history for her work to secure the rights of women and Native Americans and abolish slavery.  She was also the mother-in-law of L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
