The Entwined Collection

Early Release

May 14th - May 21st, 2024

All of the following pieces of wood art are a culmination of more than four decades of learning my craft, experimenting, and striving to improve.  I created them in my backyard studio, where I’m surrounded by magnificent hardwoods.  You won’t find better maples, black walnuts, or cherries anywhere.  Most of the wood used in these pieces grew within a few miles of my studio.  Many had reached the end of their lifespan; some came down in storms, and others were taken down by homeowners for a variety of reasons.  Trees like this typically are disposed of as waste, or they become firewood.  I like that these trees will live on as another form of art, and each piece has a story to tell.

In my early woodworking years, I saw an obscure technique used to cut art from paper.  I reasoned that the same concept might work on wood.  Some trials yielded modest success. I discovered that I wasn’t the only one to come up with the idea, and others used this same technique to cut wood, although I don’t often see it used.

Over time, I have enhanced this technique with my own ideas, which are unique to my work. I call my style Entwined and consider it my signature style of wood art.

Typically, I incorporate two to five species of select hardwoods matched by their color, texture, and grain. Patterns are created by making precision cuts and gluing the pieces together. This process is repeated many times to complete a single piece.

To fully appreciate wood, one needs to touch it and experience how incredibly soft and smooth it can feel.  It needs to be seen up close where you can capture the wonder of every detail.  Still, I share my art with you in the following pictures and am grateful to be doing that.  I hope you enjoy my work!

Testimonials

Bob Lubeck and his wife bought this piece for their daughter and son-in-law as a wedding gift. Here is what Bob had to say.

The craft of woodworking has a long and respected history.  In addition to the creation of practical artifacts, this work also includes the production of exquisite pieces of art.

Moe Lalonde’s abstract representations engage the eye while stimulating the imagination.  His work seems to require no explanation or representational content.  Each piece is unique and expresses his passion wherever it may be displayed.  Whether in a home, business, or gallery, these “Moesterpieces” elicit a subtle attraction, calling attention to one artisan’s labor of love.

Judy Sierperman and her husband have purchased many pieces over the years. Here is what Judy wrote.

We have several of Moe Lalonde’s pieces of artwork that we started collecting 20 years ago for ourselves and for gifts. The craftsmanship and precision of his wood designs are what makes his pieces unique.   Each of Moe’s pieces of art has a history of how the wood was procured, refined, and created to showcase the wood’s natural beauty.  His latest pieces showcase his imagination and artistry with their intricate and sophisticated designs.
