Many of the beautiful hardwoods I use come from trees that nature has culled. A tornado uprooted one. One was a victim of Hurricane Ian. This piece, Deeply Rooted, was created from a tremendous, gnarly, century-old maple that had reached the end of its lifespan. It was dying and dropping limbs on a friend's driveway, so it needed to come down.
Inspired by the tree's majesty and the beauty of its wood, I thought that creating a tree from it would be a fitting way for this maple to live on.
